Is Your Diet Nutritionally Adequate to Support Your Exercise Plan?
You should feel good about yourself once you have decided to start a diet and exercise plan no matter if it is for weight management or muscle building. It could be a good start to achieving a quality, healthy lifestyle. You may find it rather easy to lose a few kilos of fat at the beginning of your change of lifestyle when your will power is still strong. However, it is not easy to maintain your weight loss long term with no bounce back of weight.
To achieve a long term success of your weight management, a nutritionally balanced diet can be the key to enable your body and your spirit to keep up with your physical activities. On top of protein foods, vegetables and fruits, the presence of a nutrient called complex carbohydrate (not simple sugar) in your diet is important to provide “fuel” for your exercise and keep you energetic long term. Carbohydrate is stored as glycogen in your muscle and is used fairly quickly to meet the need of physical exercise. The lack of complex carbohydrate in your diet with increased exercise levels may induce low blood sugar in the body causing dizziness, muscle weakness and tiredness. Therefore it may weaken the persistence of an ongoing exercise plan and an overall change of lifestyle.
It is especially important for people with diabetes to have the right portion of low G.I. complex carbohydrates throughout the day before they commit a heavy exercise plan.
You could work out your complex carbohydrate portion in your diet plan with a qualified dietitian based on your body weight and exercise plan.
